Welcome to my stop on the blog tour for the amazing and highly anticipated The Silent Patient, the debut novel by Alex Michaelides. I was lucky enough to read a preview copy of this book towards the end of last year, and I’m so excited to finally be able to share my review with you today!
Thank you to Tracy Fenton, Poppy Stimpson and Orion Books for giving me the opportunity to read and review this brilliant book.
About The Book:
Only she knows what happened.
Only I can make her speak.
**************
I love him so totally, completely, sometimes it threatens to overwhelm me.
Sometimes I think-
No. I won’t write about that.
ALICIA
Alicia Berenson writes a diary as a release, an outlet – and to prove to her beloved husband that everything is fine. She can’t bear the thought of worrying Gabriel, or causing him pain.
Until, late one evening, Alicia shoots Gabriel five times and then never speaks another word.
THEO
Forensic psychotherapist Theo Faber is convinced he can successfully treat Alicia, where all others have failed. Obsessed with investigating her crime, his discoveries suggest Alicia’s silence goes far deeper than he first thought.
And if she speaks, would he want to hear the truth?

My Review:
Wow, what can I say? The Silent Patient completely blew me away! This is going to be a difficult book to review as I don’t want to risk giving anything away, but suffice to say it is an astounding psychological thriller that will stay with me for a long time to come.
I’m not sure any review I could write would do justice to this jaw droppingly amazing book. It is a book that deserves to be shouted about from the rooftops, but is also a book best read cold, without knowing too much about it.
The story is mainly told from the perspective of forensic psychotherapist Theo Faber, who is convinced he can successfully treat convicted killer Alicia Berenson, even though all others who have tried have failed. One night, seemingly out of the blue, renowned artist Alicia brutally murdered her husband, Gabriel – and has never uttered a word since. Theo believes that he alone can break her silence.
We get to know Alicia’s story through entries in her diary, with more and more pieces of the puzzle being revealed as we move through the book. The details of what happened that fateful night begin to emerge, until we finally understand with startling clarity exactly what it was that drove her to do what she did.
What follows is a story that is as shocking as it is thrilling. A story that twists and turns and leads to a denouement you will not see coming. I know I never did!
The Silent Patient is a book that’s full of surprises, with an intricate plot that takes its time to reveal its secrets. It is, without a doubt, one of the best psychological thrillers I’ve read in a long, long time. Once started I could not put it down, it is just that good.
So drop everything and go read it NOW! You will not be disappointed.
It’s hard to believe this outstanding book is Alex Michaelides debut novel. I can’t wait to see what this talented storyteller is going to come up with next!
