#BlogTour – #BookReview of #TheAmberMaze by #ChristopherBowden @annecater #RandomThingsTours

I’m pleased to welcome you today to my stop on the blog tour for The Amber Maze by Christopher Bowden. Thank you to Anne Cater and Langton & Wood for giving me the opportunity to read and review this lovely book.

About the book:

While staying in a Dorset cottage, Hugh Mullion finds a mysterious key down the side of an antique chair.  No one can say how long the key has been there or what it opens.

Hugh’s search for answers will unlock the secrets of the troubled life of a talented artist, destined to be hailed a neglected genius fifty years too late.  And no secret is darker than that of The Amber Maze, from whose malign influence he never escaped.

The trail takes Hugh from Edwardian Oxfordshire to 1960s Camden Town, where the ghosts of the past are finally laid to rest.

My Review:

The Amber Maze is a quick and easy read that captured my imagination from the very first page. Hugh Mullion is staying in a cottage in Dorset, waiting for his wife to join him for a week’s holiday while his twin daughters are away. He finds a mysterious key down the side of an antique chair and decides to find out where the key came from and what secrets it will unlock.

So begins a story of mystery and intrigue that will lead Hugh to the mysterious Amber Maze and a trail of family secrets that go back more than a hundred years.

This is exactly the sort of book I love. A story with family history at its heart, that begins with the discovery of a small object of interest that in turn leads to bigger clues, connecting each one little by little until the bigger picture is finally revealed.

Cleverly plotted and beautifully written, this is a small book with a big heart. What dark secrets will Hugh’s research uncover? And can the ghosts of the past finally be laid to rest?

I don’t want to give too much away, as the best thing about this book is the journey of discovery it takes you on, unlocking the answers to the mystery of The Amber Maze as you move from clue to clue, uncovering the secrets of the past right along with Hugh.

Christopher Bowden has written a fascinating little tale that I enjoyed immensely. I haven’t read any of his previous books, but I’ll definitely be searching them out after reading The Amber Maze. A highly entertaining read that I would recommend.
