For my second post of the day I’m pleased to welcome you to my stop on the blog tour for a moving book of poetry called The Sea Refuses No River by Bethany Rivers. Thank you to Anne Cater and Fly On The Wall Press for the invitation.
About the book:
The journey of grief is a strange one
and one not often talked about in our everyday reality of this society,
but I know what it’s like to dive deep,
down to the bottom of the wreck,
feel the ribs of the wreck,
after losing a parent so young in life
In this collection, the sea refuses no river, there is an acceptance of the pain and an acceptance of the healing moments; the healing journeys. To quote Adrienne Rich: I came to explore the wreck’, and in this collection, Bethany discovers how, ‘The words are purposes. The words are maps.’
About the author:

My Review:
The Sea Refuses No River by Bethany Rivers is a short book at only 42 pages long, but is one that takes you on a turbulent and emotional journey of discovery all the same. For me, poetry has to resonate on a personal level for it to have any impact and this book certainly does that.
It has a raw intensity to it that I found incredibly moving, each poem exploring a different facet of grief, healing or acceptance and the many ways those wide ranging emotions manifest themselves within us.
Although only a short book it is one that deserves to be savoured, so I read only one or two poems at a time, allowing myself to digest what I’d read before moving on to the next.
I think most of us can identify with the themes of grief and sorrow held within these pages, but it is by no means a depressing read. I enjoyed the journey it took me on as it gave me a lot of food for thought and I was glad I had taken the time to read it.
A beautifully written and moving collection of poetry that I would recommend.
