About the author:
Niki Mackay studied Performing Arts at the BRIT School, and it turned out she wasn’t very good at acting but quite liked writing scripts. She holds a BA (Hons) in English Literature and Drama, and won a full scholarship for her MA in Journalism.
My Review:
The Lies We Tell is the second book in Niki Mackay’s Madison Attallee series, but is the first one I’ve read. I think it worked well as a standalone, although I will definitely go back and read the first book as I enjoyed this one so much!
Miriam Jackson is married to a well known and wealthy movie director and they have a teenage daughter together. Miriam is also a successful radio host, spending a lot of time on her own due to her husband’s busy work schedule. An unexpected face from her past makes her head spin, leading to an indiscretion that she feels guilty about as soon as it happens. But then her daughter disappears. And now she knows she must find her daughter before her husband finds out the truth. But could the truth turn out to be the downfall of them all?
PI Madison Attallee is hired to find out what’s happened to Tabitha, Miriam’s daughter, but soon realises there is much more to this case than first meets the eye. What follows is a tense and fast paced thriller, with plenty of twists and turns along the way. This isn’t always an easy book to read due to the all too real subject matter, but is incredibly well written, with a storyline that keeps you turning pages long into the night, not wanting to put it down until you reach the final shocking conclusion.
A fantastic thriller that moves along at a cracking pace, The Lies We Tell is a book that will keep you guessing throughout. It has a strong and varied cast of characters and is told from several different points of view, which works incredibly well, adding to the suspense as the horrifying truth is slowly revealed bit by bit.
I loved Madison Attallee, the brilliant female lead in this new series. She’s an interesting character with what seems to be a fascinating backstory, and I can’t wait to learn more about her, both in the previous novel (which has already been added to my TBR list!) and in any future ones.
An exciting new series that I would highly recommend.
