#BlogTour – #BookReview of #SmokeInHerEyes by Anna Belfrage @abelfrageauthor @matadorbooks @annecater #RandomThingsTours

Today is my stop on the blog tour for Smoke In Her Eyes by Anna Belfrage, book 2 in The Wanderer series. I’m delighted to be able to share my review of this fabulous book with you today. Thank you to Anne Cater and Matador Books for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book as part of the Random Things Blog Tour.

About the book:

Six months ago, Helle Madsen would have described herself as normal. Now she no longer knows if that terms applies, not after her entire life has been turned upside down by the reappearance of not one, but two, men from her very, very distant past.

Helle Madsen never believed in mumbo-jumbo stuff like reincarnation—until she came face to face with Jason Morris, a man who purportedly had spent fifty lives looking for her. Coping with being reunited with the lover from her ancient past was one thing. Having Sam Woolf, her vindictive nemesis from that same ancient past join the party was a bit too much. Suddenly, Helle finds herself the reluctant heroine of a far-flung, time-transcending epic story, one in which pain and loss seem to play a very big part.

This time round, Jason and Helle are determined to make it to the happily ever after. Unfortunately, Sam Woolf will stop at nothing to crush them. That ride into the golden sunset seems awfully far away at times…

About the author:

Had Anna been allowed to choose, she’d have become a professional time-traveller. As such a profession does not exist, she settled for second best and became a financial professional with two absorbing interests, namely history and writing. These days, Anna combines an exciting day-job with a large family and her writing endeavours.

Her first series, The Graham Saga, is set in 17th century Scotland and Virginia/Maryland. It tells the story of Matthew and Alex, two people who should never have met – not when she was born three hundred years after him. With this heady blend of time-travel, romance, adventure, high drama and historical accuracy, Anna hopes to entertain and captivate, and is more than thrilled when readers tell her just how much they love her books and her characters. There are eight books in the series so far, but Anna is considering adding one or two more…

Presently, Anna is hard at work with her next project, a series set in the 1320s featuring Adam de Guirande, his wife Kit, and their adventures and misfortunes in connection with Roger Mortimer’s rise to power. The King’s Greatest Enemy is a series where passion and drama play out against a complex political situation, where today’s traitor may be tomorrow’s hero, and the Wheel of Fortune never stops rolling.

With Jason and Helle, Anna has stepped out of her historical comfort zone and has loved doing so. She hopes her readers will love it too.

My Review:

Smoke In Her Eyes by Anna Belfrage is the second book in The Wanderer series. Sadly, I haven’t read book one in the series yet, but after reading and enjoying this one so much I will definitely go back and read it at some point as I think knowing more of the backstory of these fabulous characters would enrich the story even more. In fact, although I did enjoy this book as a standalone, I would recommend reading book one first as that is where the story of Helle and Jason truly begins.

Smoke In Her Eyes is the story of Helle and Jason, who have lived many previous lives, both together and apart. Jason remembers each life he’s lived, including the pain of the ones he’s spent searching for his beloved Helle, unable to find her. Helle is unable to remember her past lives, only seeing glimpses of the previous lives she’s lived. But now, at last, they are back together again. But will they get the happily ever after they crave? Or will Sam Woolf, a vindictive nemesis from their shared past, tear their lives apart once again?

What follows is a steamy and fast paced love story that keeps you on your toes throughout. Anna Belfrage has written an epic paranormal romance that is brought vividly to life by a cast of intriguing characters who you quickly come to care about. Sam Woolf is the perfect villain, a character who you love to hate, bringing a deliciously palpable tension and fear to the tale. Will he succeed in his plan to tear Jason and Helle apart? Or will love finally be able to conquer all?

I loved this beautifully written and fascinating book, the epic tale sweeping me along as I found myself absorbed in Helle and Jason’s love story, willing them to finally get the happy ending they deserved. Smoke In Her Eyes is pure escapism at its very best and I would recommend it to anyone who feels like they could do with forgetting about real life for a little while. The perfect summer read.
