I’m delighted to welcome you today to my stop on the blog tour for bright and fun children’s book Jay-Jay And The Carnival by Sue Wickstead. Thank you to Rachel Gilbey and the author for giving me the opportunity to read and review this lovely book.
About the book:
Jay-Jay the Supersonic Bus is a brightly coloured playbus full of toys. He’s always ready for adventure, and after an eventful summer the bus is ready for his journey to the carnival. The children are also excited – but what will happen on the way?
About the author:
A few words from Sue Wickstead:
I am a teacher and an author and have currently written six children’s picture books with a bus theme.
For over 20 years, alongside my teaching career, I worked with a Children’s Charity, The Bewbush Playbus Association, which led me to write a photographic history book about it.
I soon found that many children had never been on a bus before, let alone a ‘Playbus’ and they wanted to know more. I decided to write a fictional tale about the bus, his number plate JJK261 gave
him his name.
‘Jay-Jay the Supersonic Bus,’ came out in print in 2014. It is the story behind the original bus and is his journey from a scrap-yard to being changed into a playbus for children to play in. From Fact to fiction the bus journey continued.
This story has now been followed by five more picture books.
I also undertake events and author bookings and love to share the story.
There are also a few more
stories in the writing process, with links to real events and buses.
The story has been read in many schools in the south-East of England, where I teach as a cover teacher, it is always well received and certainly different.

My Review:
Well, what can I say? My four year old granddaughter absolutely adored this book! The story is clear, interesting and to the point and the pictures are bright, colourful and eye catching, with plenty to point out and enjoy even after the story is finished.
Jay-Jay is a striking character that my granddaughter loved as soon as she saw him. She was fascinated by the carnival and by all of the fun things that happened there. The story kept her interested from beginning to end and was the perfect length for a child of her age.
Jay-Jay And The Carnival is the ideal book for young children to enjoy, either by having it read to them or, as they grow and develop, to read by themselves. The characters are bright and vibrant, with Jay-Jay himself being a fantastic way of teaching little ones all about transport.
I loved this book and am looking forward to spending more time with Jay-Jay in the future. Quality time spent reading with my grandchildren is always time well spent and Sue Wickstead has created a fun and accessible series of books that is perfect for young children.
A lovely book that I would recommend.
As you can see my four year old granddaughter loved this delightful little book! 😍

Wow!
The fact that your granddaughter loved this book is the best review of all.
I love knowing that the real bus, which was much loved, still brings so much pleasure.
My daughter (and son) loved the real bus and maybe my grandchildren will do too, one day.
Thank you for the review.
