I’m excited to welcome you today to my stop on the blog tour for deliciously creepy thriller The Demons Beneath (DI Graves #1) by WD Jackson-Smart. Thank you to Emma Welton of Damppebbles Blog Tours for the invitation and to Panther Publishing for my copy of this awesome book.
About the book:
A detective new to London. A possible serial killer. And a demon?
When a bloody corpse is discovered in a North London park, Detective Inspector Daniel Graves is the man tasked with finding the killer. With no clues and no suspects it seems like a dead end. Then another body turns up and this time it looks like it could be his fault. Has his investigation caused the murderer to strike again? Is he dealing with a serial killer?
As the case gets ever more complicated, a report comes in of another suspicious death but this is nothing like any other Graves has dealt with. All involved are convinced that something supernatural is to blame. A demon. Daniel is no believer but could he be wrong?
With two cases on his shoulders and the truth behind each beyond his grasp, Graves must race against time before both killers, human or otherwise, strike again.

My Review:
This is the first book I’ve read by WD Jackson-Smart, but wow what a book to start with! It captured my imagination from the very first page and did not let go until the final page had been turned. A suspense filled and creepy read that had me on the edge of my seat throughout, The Demons Beneath is a crime thriller with a difference and one that I absolutely adored!
The characters drew me in from the outset, with two seemingly unconnected stories unfolding alongside each other as each set of characters is introduced. Janine and her family are plagued by strange happenings in their house that lead them to believe something ‘ghostly’ may be happening. In steps demonologist Catherine, who tells the petrified Janine and her husband that she can help rid their home of the demon she believes is possessing it.
In an apparently separate storyline, DI Daniel Graves and his team are investigating the murder of a man whose body has been found in a local park. With no clues or suspects, they appear to have hit a dead end, but then another body turns up that changes everything. Has Daniel’s investigation caused the murderer to strike again? Or is he dealing with a serial killer?
But as the case becomes even more complicated, a report comes in of another mysterious death, but this time with a possible supernatural twist. Daniel is no believer in ghosts or demons, but what if he’s wrong? What follows is a race against time as the DI and his team try to solve both cases before the killers strike again. With the tension increasing with every page, the reader is kept guessing right up until the final thrilling denouement of the story that leads to a conclusion I did not see coming!
The Demons Beneath is a brilliant introduction to Detective Inspector Daniel Graves, with a story that twists and turns in ways you would not expect. I loved the deliciously creepy supernatural element of the story, which added even more to what was already a suspense filled and gripping crime thriller. It put me in mind of James Oswald’s brilliant Inspector McLean series of books, which can only be a good thing in my opinion. I can’t wait to see what WD Jackson-Smart has in store for us in future instalments of this promising new series.
Highly recommended.
