It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…

Yes, you heard me right. It may be only October, but the holiday season is fast approaching! 🎄🎅🤶

So I’m delighted to welcome you today to my stop on the blog tour for my first festive read of the year, The Christmas Holiday by Sophie Claire. Thank you to Myrto Kalavrezou for the invitation and to Hodder & Stoughton for my copy of this heartwarming book, which is the perfect read to get you in the mood for the holiday season.

About the book:

Can a trip away lead you home?

After a bad break-up, eternal optimist Evie Miller has moved to the small village of Willowbrook to finally pursue her dream of opening a craft shop. Unfortunately, with money worries and an ex-boyfriend determined to track her down, her fresh start isn’t going entirely to plan.

Jake Hartwood is also looking to escape his past. Haunted by the loss of his wife, he’s determined not to get close to anyone again – and the last thing he wants is to be celebrating this December.

Hoping to avoid the festivities, Evie and Jake arrange to escape Christmas together as friends in Provence. But will the magic of the season change things between them?

And what happens if one of them starts to feel something more?

About the author:

Sophie Claire writes emotional stories set in England and sunny Provence, where she spent her summers as a child.

She has a French mother and a Scottish father, but was born in Africa and grew up in Manchester, England where she still lives with her husband and two sons.

Previously, she worked in Marketing and proofreading academic papers, but writing is what she always considered her ‘real job’ and now she’s delighted to spend her days dreaming up heartwarming contemporary romance stories set in beautiful places.

My Review:

Oh, what a lovely and heartwarming read this is! The perfect book to curl up with this festive season, The Christmas Holiday by Sophie Claire takes you on a magical journey of life, love, loss and brand new beginnings.

Evie Miller and Jake Hartwood’s first meeting gets off to a very bad start, but they soon find themselves drawn together as friends and decide to escape the stresses of Christmas together in Provence. The festive season has a way of weaving its magic around people wherever they are, but will it change things between this unlikely couple? And what will happen if one of them starts to feel something more?

The Christmas Holiday is a beautifully written and uplifting read that will melt even the  coldest of hearts this festive season. Jake is haunted by the loss of his wife, something that will strike a chord with many of us who are missing a loved one at this time of the year. The sorrow he feels is palpable as he slowly allows himself to embrace his grief, eventually coming to the realisation that maybe, just maybe, he is able to move forward with his life after all.

Sophie Claire brings beautiful Provence vividly to life, the setting perfect for a tale of healing hearts and burgeoning new love. I warmed to Jake and Evie from the outset, their budding friendship feeling real and authentic from the very start, with their relationship slowly evolving into something more meaningful as the story progresses.

This is a novel full of poignant and heartwarming moments throughout. Told from the points of view of both Evie and Jake, it’s the perfect read to bring to mind those warm, fuzzy feelings of Christmas that most of us know so well. Add to the mix an adorable Dalmatian named Smoke and you have a winning combination that will send your heart soaring!

I loved everything about this book and would recommend it to anyone who wants to get themselves in the mood for the holiday season. A magical and uplifting Christmas read.
