I’m pleased to welcome you today to my stop on the blog tour for the superb From Inside the House (DI Graves Book 2) by WD Jackson-Smart. Thank you to Emma Welton and Panther Publishing for giving me the opportunity to read and review this fabulous book.
About the book:
Two victims. Brutally murdered in their own home. Body parts taken.
D.I. Graves is back on the case to face his toughest challenge yet. A case with no motive and no suspect, nothing at all that could explain why someone would kill innocent people in such a way.
Then the next victims are discovered. Another pair of bodies. New body parts taken. Again in their own home.
Someone is breaking into houses across the city at night, leaving horror in their wake. It seems to Graves that this could be two serial killers, working together. But how are they choosing their victims? Is any house in London a target? Is anyone safe?
To make matters worse, a journalist is threatening to cause more harm than good with her obsessive push in covering the story to further her career, and someone is targeting Graves personally, seeking revenge against him in relation to an old case.
Can Graves keep himself safe long enough to stop the serial killers before they strike again?

My Review:
Oh wow, I am now officially in love with this series of books!
I loved The Demons Beneath, book one in the D.I Graves series, but was nervous that there was no way the second book could live up to its predecessor. Well, how wrong was I! From Inside the House has far exceeded my expectations – and is probably even better than book one!
Although the second in the series, this book could easily be read as a standalone. But why not just go ahead and read book one first? Believe me when I say you won’t regret it! It really is that good!
From Inside the House catapults you headfirst into the heart of the action right from the very start, taking you on a disturbing rollercoaster of a journey that has everything you could possibly want from a crime based horror story. WD Jackson-Smart certainly knows his stuff, bringing the horrifying murders and grisly crime scenes so vividly to life you almost feel as though you were there.
As with the first book, the characters are well written and draw you in from the moment they’re introduced, with D.I Graves in particular being a character I’m eager to learn more about. His obvious human failings are what I find most interesting about him and he’s a very real and believable character that you can’t help but warm to from the start. I loved him in The Demons Beneath, but this latest story has made me love him even more. He’s so different to the detectives I usually read about in this kind of book, something that makes him even more fascinating to me.
These are books you need to experience without knowing too much, so I’m not going to say too much about the story itself. All I’ll say is that it’s tense and unpredictable, with a disturbing undercurrent throughout that keeps you interested from beginning to end, never quite sure what’s going to happen next. And with a shock ending that sets up book three to perfection, I can’t wait to find out where this talented author is going to take these characters next!
The D.I Graves books are fast becoming a firm favourite and are a fantastic series of books I hope will continue for a long time to come. Highly recommended.
