Jennifer Joyce is a writer of romantic comedies who lives in Manchester with her husband and their two daughters. Oh my goodness, what a wonderfully warm and festive read this is! The 12 Christmases of You & Me by Jennifer Joyce tells the story of thirty something Maisie who wakes up one day to find herself back in the 1994 of her youth.
Naturally assuming she’s dreaming, Maisie is shocked when the same thing happens again the next night, only this time what happened in her dream has effected her present day life. Surely she can’t really be travelling back in time? And if she is, will she be able to save her relationship with best friend Jonas who she hasn’t spoken to for two years?
And so begins Maisie’s journey into the past, where she is forced to relive the Christmases of times gone by. Will she learn from her past mistakes? Or is she going to make the same decisions all over again? And if Maisie does change the past, how will those changes effect her life in the present?
As someone with a lifelong obsession with time travel fiction, beginning at 12 years old when I first read the brilliant Time and Again by Jack Finney, The 12 Christmases of You & Me is exactly the kind of book I love. Add in a touch of romance and a sprinkle of the magic of Christmas and you have a recipe for the perfect festive read!
I was so enamoured by this gorgeous book I devoured it in one sitting, barely even coming up for air. Jennifer Joyce’s writing is warm and full of humour, her characters well rounded and brought so vividly to life you almost feel as though you know them. Maisie’s family are a breath of fresh air and her relationship with friends Lily and Jonah, both in the past and the present, is captivating.
The 12 Christmases of You & Me is a light and easy read that had me enthralled from beginning to end. A heartwarming story of love, family and friendship that I would recommend to anyone who is looking for the perfect read to escape with this Christmas. And with the added element of time travel added to the mix, how could you possibly resist?
