In 2012, Deborah had everything. A beautiful baby daughter, a wonderful life in New York with her loving husband, and a much-wanted pregnancy of twin boys. Within hours of their birth, her world collapsed when she was told that both babies were profoundly deaf. As she fights for the future of her sons, Deborah finds a strength she never knew existed. Exhausted, drained, challenged, but never broken, this is her story . . . a story to inspire any woman who knows what it is to fight.
In her incredible memoir, Deborah shares the lessons she learned and the strategies she used to save her children – and herself.

My Review:
Listen tells the inspirational true story of Deborah Pezzuto as she tries to navigate her way through unfamiliar territory after receiving the devastating news that her newborn twin sons were both profoundly deaf.
Listen is a warm and captivating memoir that begins with Deborah’s childhood in Italy, taking us through the ups and downs of her life, including meeting her husband Alessandro, her difficulty in conceiving, the adoption process and then IVF which happily resulted in the birth of her twin sons.
But then her world collapsed when she was told both babies were profoundly deaf. Her pain at this news was palpable, taking me back to the birth of my own daughter who was born with spina bifida twenty nine years ago. Nothing can quite prepare you for that moment when you’re told life changing news like that, and my heart went out to Deborah as she grappled with the enormity of what had just happened.
But somehow Deborah finds a strength from deep within herself to fight for the future of her sons. In Listen she shares some of the lessons and strategies she’s learned over the years as she does everything in her power to ensure her sons have the best life they possibly can.
Deborah Pezzuto’s story resonated with me on a personal level, carrying me away on a tsunami of emotion with the impact of her words. Beautifully written, Listen is a truly inspirational memoir that I would highly recommend.
