I’m pleased to welcome you today to my stop on the blog tour for An Eye for an Eye, the first in a brand new police procedural series by Carol Wyer. Thank you to Emma Welton and Amazon Publishing for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
About the book:
A killer running rings around the police. A detective spiralling out of control.
DI Kate Young is on leave. She’s the force’s best detective, but her bosses know she’s under pressure, on medication and overcoming trauma. So after her bad judgement call leads to a narrowly averted public disaster, they’re sure all she needs is a rest.
But when Staffordshire Police summon her back to work on a murder case, it’s a harder, more suspicious Kate Young who returns. With a new ruthlessness, she sets about tracking down a clinical, calculating serial killer who is torturing victims and leaving clues to taunt the police. Spurred on by her reporter husband, Young begins to suspect that the murderer might be closer than she ever imagined.
As she works to uncover the truth, Young unravels a network of secrets and lies, with even those closest to her having something to hide. But with her own competence—and her grip on reality—called into question, can she unmask the killer before they strike again?

My Review:
An Eye for an Eye is the first in a brand new series featuring fascinating but flawed new character Detective Kate Young. I’m ashamed to say this is the first book I’ve read by bestselling author Carol Wyer, but it most definitely won’t be my last. A gripping thriller with twists, turns and surprises throughout, An Eye for an Eye is an exciting police procedural that had me turning pages long into the night.
After taking some time off due to an experience that had left her traumatised, DI Kate Young is called back in to work on a murder case. Alongside her team she must do everything in her power to bring a sadistic serial killer, who leaves scenes of torture and death in his or her wake, to justice.
Putting aside her own trauma, Young knows she must be harder and more ruthless than she ever has been before if she is to track down a murderer who is intent on leaving clues to taunt the police. With the help of her journalist husband, Young slowly begins to slot the pieces of the puzzle together, leading her to believe that the killer may be even closer than she could ever have imagined…
What follows is a tense and exciting thriller that moves along at a breakneck speed, with shocks and surprises galore as the twists and turns keep on coming until, at last, the truth is finally revealed.
With a well plotted storyline and brilliant characterisation An Eye for an Eye is a thoroughly enjoyable thriller that kept me on my toes throughout. Carol Wyer has created a fascinating but troubled character in DI Kate Young, who I hope to learn even more about as the series progresses. I can’t wait to find out what the next book in the series will have in store for us next!
A fast paced and gripping thriller that I would recommend.

Your review has put a bounce in my step (which is just as well because Mr Grumpy has told me I need to get offline and go for a walk!) Seriously, I can’t express how much this means to me. I’ve bookmarked it so I can come back and look at it on days when I’m struggling to find motivation or got stuck in a plot hole.
