I’m thrilled to welcome you today to my stop on the blog tour for dark and gripping psychological thriller Close Your Eyes by Rachel Abbott, book 10 in her brilliant Tom Douglas series. Thank you to Anne Cater and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read and review this wonderful book.
About the book:
Don’t let him under your skin. He’ll destroy you.
Don’t fight him. He’ll win.
Run. Never let him find you.
I thought I was safe here, but I’m not. I’ve stayed too long. Now Genevieve is dead, and the police are on their way.
It’s time for me to go.
I must stick to the plan – the one I made the day I arrived in this city. My bag is packed. It always is. I will destroy every shred of evidence of my existence. The police must never find me. If they do, so will he.
I made a mistake, and someone had to die. But I’m the one who has truly lost her life.
I need to make a choice. If I keep running, I’ll never stop. If I go back, he will make me suffer.
How many lives can one person ruin?
A Tom Douglas thriller

My review:
Close Your Eyes is yet another brilliant addition to Rachel Abbott’s series of psychological thrillers featuring DCI Tom Douglas. This is the tenth book in the series and is every bit as good as the previous nine, all of which I can highly recommend. But if this is the first one you’ve read it can easily be read as a standalone without spoiling your enjoyment of the story.
I love this series of books! Rachel Abbott’s writing gets better and better with each one, drawing the reader in from the very first page and not letting go until the final, thrilling page has been turned. A gripping but at times uncomfortable read, Close Your Eyes is a book full of murder, intrigue and suspense that has the ability to shock you to your core as the horrific truth begins to emerge. With plenty of twists, turns and surprises along the way, this is a book that took a much darker turn than I expected, keeping me on the edge of my seat throughout.
This time Tom and his team are investigating not only the shocking murder of Genevieve, but also the disappearance of Martha. The story moves seamlessly between the present time and flashbacks to the past, with the narrative told mostly from the perspectives of the missing Martha and DCI Tom Douglas, as he and his team do all they can to uncover the truth of what happened at Lakeside.
I don’t want to say much more for fear of spoiling the story, so all I will say is that Rachel Abbott has written yet another chilling and insightful psychological thriller that kept me reading long into the night. With top notch characterisation and a dark and compelling plot, Close Your Eyes is a book that packs an emotional punch as the story moves forward towards its thrilling conclusion.
I’m a huge fan of this series of books and Rachel Abbott’s writing and can’t wait to see what she has in store for DCI Tom Douglas and his team in the future.
Highly recommended.
