I’m excited to welcome you today to my stop on the blog tour for breathtaking thriller Smoke Screen (Blix and Ramm 2) by Thomas Enger and Jørn Lier Horst. Thank you to Anne Cater and Orenda Books for giving me the opportunity to read this outstanding book.
About the book:
Oslo, New Year’s Eve. The annual firework celebration is rocked by an explosion and the city is put on terrorist alert.
Police officer Alexander Blix and blogger Emma Ramm are on the scene, and when a severely injured survivor is pulled from the icy harbour, she is identified as the mother of two-year-old Patricia Semplass, who was kidnapped on her way home from kindergarten ten years earlier … and never found.
Blix and Ramm join forces to investigate the unsolved case, as public interest heightens, the terror threat is raised, and it becomes clear that Patricia’s disappearance is not all that it seems…
The second in the hard-boiled and furiously compelling Blix & Ramm series, created by Thomas Enger and Jørn Lier Horst, two of the biggest names in Nordic Noir.

My Review:
Smoke Screen is the second in the Blix & Ramm crime thriller series by Norwegian authors Jørn Lier Horst and Thomas Enger. Death Deserved, the first book in the series, was a complete triumph and Smoke Screen is no different. With twists, turns, shocks and surprises throughout, this is a book that had me on the edge of my seat from the very first page, right up until the final page had been turned.
This time police officer Alexander Blix and blogger Emma Ramm are on the scene when Oslo’s annual New Year’s Eve firework celebration is rocked by an explosion that puts the city on terrorist alert. When a severely injured woman is pulled from the harbour, she is identified as the mother of a two year old girl who disappeared ten years previously.
As public interest heightens and the terror threat is raised, it becomes clear to Blix and Ramm that the little girl’s disappearance is not at all what it seems. The unlikely duo join forces once again, determined to get to the bottom of the unsolved case amidst the trauma and devastation that the explosion has caused. With feelings running high and the tension ratcheting up to breaking point, will they be able to solve the case before it’s too late?
What follows is an exciting and fast paced thriller that kept me on my toes throughout. The two main protagonists are a fascinating combination and I look forward to finding out even more about them as the series progresses. With a colourful cast of characters and a tense storyline that had me enthralled from beginning to end, Smoke Screen is a breathtakingly tense and gripping thriller that I thoroughly enjoyed.
Skilfully translated by Megan Turney, this is Nordic Noir at its very best and is yet another worthy addition to what is fast becoming one of my favourite genres to read. I can’t wait to see what Thomas Enger and Jørn Lier Horst have in store for Alexander Blix and Emma Ramm next!
Highly recommended.
