I’m delighted to welcome you to my stop on the blog tour for The Bone Code by bestselling author Kathy Reichs. Thank you to Anne Cater and Simon & Schuster for giving me the opportunity to read and review this gripping thriller, which is the twentieth installment of her Temperance Brennan series of books.
About the book:
Number One bestselling author Kathy Reichs returns with her twentieth edge-of-your seat thriller featuring forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan.
A storm has hit South Carolina, dredging up crimes of the past.
En route to Isle of Palms, a barrier island off the South Carolina coast, forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan receives a call from the Charleston coroner. During the storm, a medical waste container has washed up on the beach.
Inside are two decomposed bodies wrapped in plastic sheeting and bound with electrical wire. Chillingly, Tempe recognises many details as identical to those of an unsolved case she handled in Quebec fifteen years earlier. With a growing sense of foreboding, she flies to Montreal to gather evidence and convince her boss Pierre LaManch to reopen the cold case. She also seeks the advice—and comfort—of her longtime beau Andrew Ryan.
Meanwhile, a storm of a different type gathers force in South Carolina. The citizens of Charleston are struck by capnocytophaga, a bacterium that, at its worst, can eat human flesh. Thousands panic and test themselves for a rare genetic mutation that may have rendered them vulnerable.
Shockingly, Tempe eventually deduces not only that the victims in both grisly murder cases are related, but that the murders and the disease outbreak also have a common cause . . .
About the author:
Kathy Reichs’s first novel Déjà Dead was a number one bestseller and won the 1997 Ellis Award for Best First Novel. A Conspiracy of Bones is Kathy’s nineteenth entry in her series featuring forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan. Kathy was also a producer of the hit Fox TV series, Bones, which is based on her work and her novels.
Dr. Reichs is one of very few forensic anthropologists certified by the American Board of Forensic Anthropology. She served on the Board of Directors and as Vice President of both the American Academy of Forensic Sciences and the American Board of Forensic Anthropology, and as a member of the National Police Services Advisory Council in Canada.
She divides her time between Charlotte, North Carolina, and Montreal, Québec.
My Review:
I’m so excited to be taking part in the blog tour for The Bone Code, which is the twentieth novel in the Temperance Brennan series by the wonderful Kathy Reichs. You always know you’re in for a treat with this author and this latest installment in the series is no exception.
Even though it’s part of a long running series The Bone Code can easily be read as a standalone, although why you wouldn’t want to read the rest of the books in the series is beyond me! I was transported back into the world of Temperance Brennan from the very first page, as this time Tempe finds herself caught up in a case that appears chillingly similar to an unsolved case she handled in Quebec fifteen years earlier. She flies to Montreal to gather evidence so she can convince her boss Pierre LaManch to reopen the cold case, while also seeking the advice and comfort of Andrew Ryan, her long time lover and confidante.
At the same time the citizens of Charleston are struck by capnocytophaga, a bacterium that, at its worst, can eat human flesh. As thousands panic and test themselves for a rare genetic mutation that may have rendered them vulnerable, Tempe does everything she can to uncover the truth behind not only the grisly murder cases but also the outbreak of the deadly disease. Is it possible that not only are the victims in both grisly murder cases related, but that the murders and the disease outbreak also have a common cause?
The Bone Code is yet another gripping thriller by Kathy Reichs and is everything you would expect it to be. Exciting, dark and fast paced, the added element of a deadly disease at a time when the real world is in the midst of a pandemic, makes this book an even more fascinating read and I thoroughly enjoyed every word of it. This is a series that keeps on getting better and better with each book and is one that I would highly recommend.
