My Review:
A Cut For A Cut by Carol Wyer is a fast paced thriller that had me gripped from beginning to end. It is the second book to feature DI Kate Young and is every bit as good as An Eye For An Eye, which is the first book in this fabulous police procedural series.One thing I would say is that even though this book can be read as a standalone, reading An Eye For An Eye first would definitely make for a much richer reading experience in my opinion.
This time we catch up with Kate a few months following the events of the previous story, ready to try to prove herself once again and to continue with her investigation into Superintendent John Dickson, who she still doesn’t trust after everything she recently found out about him.
In A Cut For A Cut, a serial murderer and rapist is leaving a trail of death and destruction behind him, carving the word ‘MINE’ into each of his victims. Kate and her small team are put in charge of the investigation, but with very little to go on are struggling to find any leads. When one of their own investigators is found dead in a dumpster, Kate knows she must do everything in her power to find the murderer before he strikes again. Struggling with her own personal demons, Kate feels herself being pushed closer and closer to the edge. Can she and her team unmask the killer before it’s too late? Or will this investigation prove to be a step too far for her?
What follows is a dark and tense police procedural that keeps you on your toes throughout. DI Kate Young is a complex and interesting character who I’m looking forward to getting to know even more as the series continues. With a strong cast of supporting characters and a dark and twisted storyline, A Cut For A Cut is a clever and fast paced thriller that I thoroughly enjoyed and I can’t wait to see whatever Carol Wyer has planned for DI Kate Young in the future!
