#BlogTour – #BookReview of #ListenToMe by Tess Gerritsen @tessgerritsen @TransworldBooks @RandomTTours #RandomThingsTours

I’m delighted to welcome you today to my stop on the blog tour for Listen To Me, latest thrilling novel in the bestselling Rizzoli and Isles series by Tess Gerritsen. Thank you to Anne Cater and Bantam Press for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

About the book:

The murder of Sofia Suarez is both gruesome and seemingly senseless. Why would anyone target a respected nurse who was well-liked by her friends and her neighbours? As Detective Jane Rizzoli and Forensic Pathologist Maura Isles investigate the baffling case, they discover that Sofia was guarding a dangerous secret — a secret that may have led the killer straight to her door.

Meanwhile, Jane’s mother Angela Rizzoli is conducting an investigationof her own. She may be a housewife, not a police detective, but she’s savvy enough to know there’s something very strange, perhaps even dangerous, about the new neighbours across the street. The problem is, no one believes her, not even her own daughter.

Immersed in the hunt for Sofia’s killer, Jane and Maura are too busy to pay attention to Angela’s fears. With no one listening to her, and danger mounting in her neighbourhood, Angela just may be forced to take action on her own…

About the author:

Bestselling author Tess Gerritsen is also a physician, and she brings to her novels her first-hand knowledge of emergency and autopsy rooms. Her thrillers starring homicide detective Jane Rizzoli and medical examiner Maura Isles inspired the hit TV series Rizzoli & Isles.

But Tess’s interests span far more than medicine and crime. As an anthropology student at Stanford University, she catalogued centuries-old human remains, and she continues to travel the world, driven by her fascination with ancient cultures and bizarre natural phenomena.

Tess has sold over 40 million copies of her books worldwide.

My Review:

Listen To Me is the latest novel in the thrilling Rizzoli & Isles series by bestselling author Tess Gerritsen. Reading a Rizzoli & Isles thriller always feels like catching up with old friends, the characters familiar and the story flowing at a steady pace. With short, snappy chapters that make you want to carry on reading long into the night, these books are highly addictive and compelling reads that just keep on getting better and better with each one.

Listen To Me is yet another atmospheric and suspense filled crime thriller that had me gripped from beginning to end. This time Jane Rizzoli and Maura Isles are investigating the gruesome and seemingly senseless murder of much respected nurse Sofia Suarez. But why would anyone target middle aged and well liked Sofia? As Jane and her partner Barry delve even deeper into the case, they discover that the nurse was hiding a dark secret: one that very possibly could have led the killer straight to her door…

And then we have Angela, Jane’s mother, who is conducting an investigation of her own into her new neighbours who are ‘acting strange’. Unable to convince anyone to listen, even her own police detective daughter, could Angela be about to take matters into her own hands? And if she does, is she running the risk of putting her own life in danger?

I have to admit, I loved Angela in this book and perhaps enjoyed her chapters even more than the ones dealing with the main investigation. She’s a larger than life character and it’s great to have an older, often overlooked, female character taking centre stage. Seen as a bit of a nosy neighbour, Angela usually knows everything about everyone in her local neighbourhood, but in the Greens is it possible that she has finally met her match?

Told from various points of view, the tension slowly builds as each storyline begins to come together. Tess Gerritsen is a fantastic crime writer and Listen To Me is a brilliant addition to the Rizzoli & Isles series of books. With Maura Isles taking more of a back seat in this story, it is Angela Rizzoli who truly shines here. The two storylines are equally as gripping, with Jane’s police investigation and Angela’s amateur sleuthing marrying together to make a cleverly plotted and taut thriller that had me on the edge of my seat throughout.

Although part of a series, I do believe a reader new to Rizzoli & Isles would be able to read this book as a standalone, although why you would want to with a series as good as this one I don’t know. Listen To Me is a superb, easy to read crime thriller that I loved and is one that I would highly recommend.
