For my second post of the day I’m excited to welcome you to my stop on the blog tour for indescribably sublime thriller The Daves Next Door by Will Carver. Thank you to Anne Cater and Orenda Books for giving me the opportunity to read and review this dark and twisted thriller.
About the book:

A disillusioned nurse suddenly learns how to care.
An injured young sportsman wakes up find that he can see only in black and white.
A desperate old widower takes too many pills and believes that two angels have arrived to usher him through purgatory.
Two agoraphobic men called Dave share the symptoms of a brain tumour, and frequently waken their neighbour with their ongoing rows.
Separate lives, running in parallel, destined to collide and then explode.
Like the suicide bomber, riding the Circle Line, day after day, waiting for the right time to detonate, waiting for answers to his questions: Am I God? Am I dead? Will I blow up this train?
Shocking, intensely emotive and wildly original, Will Carver’s The Daves Next Door is an explosive existential thriller and a piercing examination of what it means to be human … or not.
About the author:

Will Carver is the international bestselling author of the January David series. He spent his early years in Germany, but returned to the UK at age eleven, when his sporting career took off. He turned down a professional rugby contract to study theatre and television at King Alfred’s, Winchester, where he set up a successful theatre company. He currently runs his own fitness and nutrition company, and lives in Reading with his two children.
Will’s latest title published by Orenda Books, Hinton Hollow Death Trip was longlisted for the Not the Booker Prize, while Nothing Important Happened Today was longlisted for the Theakston’s Old Peculiar Crime Novel of the Year and for the Goldsboro Books Glass Bell.
Good Samaritans was a book of the year in Guardian, Telegraph and Daily Express, and hit number one on the eBook charts.
My Review:
The Daves Next Door by Will Carver is one of those difficult to review books that you want to shout about from the rooftops, but can’t go into too much detail for fear of spoiling what is a clever and unique plot. The Daves Next Door is a highly addictive, profound and thought provoking tale unlike anything I’ve ever read before… and I loved it!
Told from the perspective of five very different and unique characters, The Daves Next Door is a tense and unpredictable read that is almost impossible to review. I don’t know quite how he does it, but Will Carver has once again created a unique and thrilling read that is as unexpected as it is shocking. The deeper we get into the mindset of each character, the more real they become, their stories taking on a life of their own, with twists and turns that take the reader on a disturbing rollercoaster of a journey that never lets up from beginning to end.
Needless to say I absolutely adored The Daves Next Door and can’t praise it highly enough. Will Carver’s writing is as superb as always, drawing you in from the outset and bringing these very different characters to life, the sense of claustrophobia and suspense building until you feel like you can’t breathe. With short, punchy chapters and a tension so palpable you can almost taste it, this is an exhilarating read that gets to the heart of humanity in a way that only the writing of Will Carver can.
The Daves Next Door is yet another original, dark and thought provoking thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout. Indescribably sublime, it is a simply stunning read that I would highly recommend.
Easily one of my favourite reads of the year so far. Just wow!
