Thank you to Tracy Fenton, Random Things Tours and Headline for giving me the opportunity to read and review this brilliant book.

About the book:

Quarter to Midnight is the first thrilling novel in a brand new series by Sunday Times bestselling author Karen Rose, set in New Orleans.

Rocky Hebert walks into his death at quarter to midnight one New Orleans night.

His son Gabe cannot accept the official verdict of suicide and enlists the help of the Burke Broussard Private Investigation Agency to discover the real cause of death.

PI Molly Sutton knows what it’s like to lose a father in tragic circumstances and will go to any lengths to crack the investigation, as she tries to fight off her growing feelings for Gabe.

They soon realise Rocky was working on an investigation of his own; one that threatened to expose the deep corruption going all the way to the top of the police department. And that the key to the puzzle lies with a young witness to a murder that happened years earlier: Xavier Morrow.

Just what did Rocky know? And who might have shut him up?

As they get closer and closer to the truth, they realise that the killer is not going to stop at Rocky. And that Xavier is in very real danger. Someone will go to any lengths to protect what he witnessed that night coming out…

My Review:

Quarter to Midnight is the first in a thrilling new series by bestselling author Karen Rose. A fantastic page turner of a read that keeps you guessing throughout, this is a book with twists and turns aplenty that had me gripped from beginning to end.

The story begins as Rocky Herbert walks into his death at a quarter to midnight one New Orleans night. Reeling from his father’s sudden death, Rocky’s son Gabe refuses to believe the verdict of suicide and sets out to find the truth. He hires the Burke Broussard Private Investigation Agency to look into Rocky’s death and soon PI Molly Sutton is put in charge of the case. As it becomes more and more clear that Rocky was working on an investigation of his own, Molly and Gabe try to fight off their growing attraction for each other, determined to do everything they possibly can to get to the bottom of the case and find out what really happened to him.

As they get closer to the truth, they realise that young witness Xavier Morrow’s life is in very real danger. With their feelings for each other growing, Molly and Gabe begin to uncover exactly what it was that Rocky had found out that led him to his untimely death. With the body count growing and the killer prepared to go to any lengths to prevent the truth from coming out, can Molly and Gabe put a stop to him or her before it’s too late?

Quarter to Midnight is a long book, but with the story moving along at a cracking pace that had me turning the pages long into the night, it is a thriller that (in spite of its size) had me completely gripped from beginning to end. I was intrigued by these characters right from the start, with the developing relationship between Molly and Gabe a particular highlight for me as the tension began to rise.

Quarter to Midnight is the kind of book I love. A fast paced thriller that gets under the skin of its characters, peeling back the layers one by one until all of their secrets lie exposed, it is a tense and exciting thriller that marks the beginning of a brand new series. I love Karen Rose’s writing and can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next!

An addictive read that kept me thoroughly entertained, Quarter to Midnight is a suspense filled romantic thriller that I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.
