#BlogTour – #BookReview of Seventeen: Last Man Standing by @JohnBrownlow @HodderBooks @JennyPlatt90 #Seventeen #EspionageThriller

I’m delighted to welcome you today to my stop on the blog tour for adrenaline fuelled spy novel Seventeen: Last Man Standing (Book 1) by John Brownlow. Thanks to Jenny Platt and Hodder & Stoughton for giving me the opportunity to read and review this exciting novel.

Seventeen was published on 17th August 2022 by Hodder & Stoughton.

About the book:

Behind the events you know are the killers you don’t.

When diplomacy fails, we’re the ones who gear up.

Officially we don’t exist, but every government in the world uses our services.

We’ve been saving the world, and your ass, for 100 years.

Sixteen people have done this job before me.
I am 17. The most feared assassin in the world.
But to be the best you must beat the best.

My next target is 16, just as one day 18 will hunt me down.

It’s a dog-eat-dog world and it gets lonely at the top.

Nobody gets to stay for long.

But while we’re here, all that matters is that we win.

My Review:

Seventeen by John Brownlow is an adrenaline fuelled spy novel that keeps you on your toes from beginning to end. Fast paced and exciting, I could easily imagine this book on the big screen, the action moving along at such a high speed that you don’t even have time to blink. A fun, high octane thriller, Seventeen is a superbly written spy caper that reminds me very much of Ian Fleming’s James Bond – and I thoroughly enjoyed every word of it!

Seventeen is a spy – and a fantastic one at that. He is the one that people fear, he is number 17 in a line of assassins that have been the most feared in the world. But Seventeen knows that his time is limited and that eventually he will be replaced by number 18, just as he replaced number 16 before him.

We are introduced to Seventeen as he embarks on a job that suddenly begins to go wrong, making him suspicious that all is not as it seems. His predecessor disappeared a number of years previously and it is now up to Seventeen to hunt him down. In a dog-eat-dog world, does he have what it takes to catch up with Sixteen? Or is Sixteen about to prove that they are the assassin who is still the one to be feared?

We slowly begin to find out more about Seventeen’s past and how he got to be where he is, beginning with his childhood and how his mother’s early death shaped his life, taking him in a direction that would otherwise never have happened. With short, punchy chapters, Seventeen is a highly entertaining book that had me on the edge of my seat throughout.

With intriguing characters and a multilayered storyline, what follows is an intense, explosive tale that has all the twists, turns and surprises you would expect from an espionage thriller as good as this one is.

The film rights have unsurprisingly already been snapped up and I can’t wait to see these intriguing characters brought to life on the big screen.

Seventeen: Last Man Standing is an exciting and fast paced espionage thriller that I would highly recommend. Bring on book two!
