#BlogTour – #BookReview of #TheMooseParadox (Book 2 #TheRabbitFactor) by @antti_tuomainen @OrendaBooks @RandomTTours #RandomThingsTours

I’m excited to welcome you to my stop on the blog tour for the dark and hilarious The Moose Paradox (Book 2 in The Rabbit Factor Series) by Antti Tuomainen. Thank you as always to Anne Cater and Orenda Books for giving me the opportunity to read and review this superb novel!

About the book:

Insurance mathematician Henri Koskinen has finally restored order both to his life and to YouMeFun, the adventure park he now owns, when a man from the past appears – and turns everything upside down again. More problems arise when the park’s equipment supplier is taken over by a shady trio, with confusing demands. Why won’t Toy of Finland Ltd sell the new Moose Chute to Henri when he needs it as the park’s main attraction?

Meanwhile, Henri’s relationship with artist Laura has reached breaking point, and, in order to survive this new chaotic world, he must push every calculation to its limits, before it’s too late

About the author:

Antti Tuomainen was an award-winning copywriter when he made his literary debut in 2007 as a suspense author in 2013, the Finnish press crowned Tuomainen the ‘King of Helsinki Noir’ when Dark as My Heart was published. With a piercing and evocative style, Tuomainen was one of the first to challenge the Scandinavian crime genre formula, and his poignant, dark and hilarious The Man Who Died became an international bestseller, shortlisting for the Petrona and Last Laugh Awards.

A TV adaptation is in the works, and Jussi Vatanen (Man In Room 301) has just been announced as a leading role. Palm Beach Finland was an immense success, with Marcel Berlins (The Times) calling Tuomainen ‘the funniest writer in Europe’.

His latest thriller, Little Siberia, was shortlisted for the CWA International Dagger, the Amazon Publishing/Capital Crime Awards and the CrimeFest Last Laugh Award, and won the Petrona Award for Best Scandinavian Crime Novel of the Year. In total, Antti Tuomainen has been short- and longlisted for 12 UK awards.

The Rabbit Factor (2021), the first book in Antti’s first ever series, is in production by Amazon Studios with Steve Carell starring. The Moose Paradox, book two in the series is out in 2022

My Review:

The Moose Paradox is the second book in a dark and hilarious series that began last year with the incredible The Rabbit Factor. Written by critically acclaimed Finnish author Antti Tuomainen, this book is every bit as unique and entertaining as the first book in the series. Brilliantly translated by David Hacksten, this is a stunning series that is unlike anything I have ever read before.

With The Rabbit Factor about to be adapted for the screen with the incredible Steve Carell starring as Henri, I couldn’t wait to see what Antti Tuomainen had in store next for this quirky, funny and innately human character. Would it be possible for him to recapture the magic of the first book? And to that I have to say a resounding YES! If anything, The Moose Paradox has somehow made me fall even more in love with Henri than ever before.

In the first book, insurance mathematician Henri Koskinen believes he knows the answer to what makes life perfect. Until suddenly he doesn’t and is faced with the incalculable after a series of unfortunate events. And then his brother dies and Henri inherits an adventure park, with all its employees and troubling financial problems included. As if that wasn’t complicated enough, Henri then meets Laura, a happy-go-lucky artist with a chequered past… and his life was never the same again…

As we catch up with Henri, it appears order has finally been restored to both his personal life and YouMeFun adventure park. But then a face from the past reappears and everything is turned topsy turvy all over again. With confusing demands from his new equipment suppliers and his relationship with artist Laura reaching tipping point, Henri feels as though he’s heading towards a point of no return. In order to survive this crazy and shocking new world he finds himself in, can he push every calculation to its limits before it’s too late?

I love Henri. He’s got a quirky personality and a mathematician’s brain, but is so out of his depth it’s hilarious. Like The Rabbit Factor before it, The Moose Paradox is a dark and hilarious comedy with a warm and soft centre running through it that’s innately human. It’s dark to the extreme at times but is also deeply moving, with characters you can’t help but care about, even when you know you probably shouldn’t. A superbly written, darkly hilarious and emotional read, The Moose Paradox builds on what went before, taking the story – and Henri – to a whole new level. And I absolutely adored it! Antti Tuomainen’s writing just keeps on getting better and better and I can’t wait to see what he has in store for us next.

The Moose Paradox continues what is a unique and highly entertaining series that I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend. I loved it!
